National Parlt joins Sir Julius’ court case

THE National Parliament has applied to join in the proceedings by New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan against the National Alliance and Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare as a defendant.
The matter was deferred from last Friday to yesterday before Chief Justice Sir Mari Kapi to preside over the matter
Yesterday, the National Parliament made a notice of intention to join as a third defendant in this proceeding as an interested party.
Lawyer for the Parliament was told to file a notice of appearance before the matter was adjourned again on Friday.
The case had not been properly heard since it was first raised last Aug 10 at the Supreme Court before the Justice Kapi.
The application by Sir Julius was basically questioning the validity of Sir Michael returning as the Prime Minister for a second term in this new Government.
The 8th National Government was formed last Aug 13 which saw Sir Michael retaining his post as PM.
