Illegal entry earns duo K2,500 fines

By GABRIEL FITO
TWO Indonesians who were arrested and charged last month for illegally entering PNG, have been fined K2,500 each by the Vanimo District Court.
Magistrate Paul N’dranoh last Friday found that the two men have been living and working in Vanimo without proper immigration documents.
Kaco bin Kamaruddin, 49, and Augus bin Rasake, 38, both from Sulawesi, were employed as chainsaw operators and tractor driver respectively by a logging company at Mushu village in Vanimo at the time they were apprehended by police.
The court heard that the two men entered the country and travelled to Wewak, where they stayed for some time before returning to Vanimo and secured employment with D.D Investment four months ago.
Immigration officials who became suspicious after sighting the two men, alerted police who found that they did not have certified entry permits to enter PNG.
Meanwhile, three Nigerians who are also facing similar charges, are expected to appear before senior provincial magistrate Thomas Morabang this morning.
