Games galore all over Madang

MADANG province is alive throughout this week as players, supporters and fans from the six districts showcase their old and new talents at the second provincial games in Madang town.
Madang Governor Sir Arnold Amet officially opened the second provincial games at Laiwaden Oval yesterday.
“When there is good reputation in sports, leadership, managements, then business houses will be willing and happy to assist in terms of finance,” Sir Arnold said.
Provincial sports commissioner Sam Aloe said the provincial games were a time when players from rural areas show their potentials, adding that most of the players at the district level had not been the opportunity to play in such (provincial) games.
He urged the selection Committee to thoroughly and honestly select the players on merit that would represent the province in the upcoming Third PNG National Games in Lae on November.
The game would be a step up for most of the participants because most of them came from rural areas, Aloe said, adding that there was lack of support in sports from business houses in the province.
However, Sir Arnold said the Job of the Government is to develop the sports facilities in both districts and provincial level and not to give money.
Madang Open MP Buka Malai and Governor Amet both made commitments to support sports during the next five years.
Governor Amet urged the people to improve their character, leadership and the standard of sports facilities in the province, saying that lack of discipline in sports was one big problem in the growing and young people of today.
