Team Morobe still on the hunt

TEAM MOROBE is embarking on a second major fundraising drive to raise the targetted amount of K300,000 to adequately cater for Team Morobeís participation in the 3rd PNG Games in November in Lae.
The Morobe administration had provided K150,000 towards assisting Team Morobe in its preparations for the tournament and the Provincial Administrator Manasupe Zurenuoc will officially launch the fundraising drive, in Lae, on Friday.
Team Morobe general manager Tokey Mambare told reporters in Lae this week that he was optimistic that they would meet the required budget ceiling of K300,000 to adequately cater for the financial requirements of Team Morobeís 700 athletes from the nine districts.
Mambare showed no signs of a deflating show in the National District Capital the previous weekend.
“We kick-started our fundraising drive in Port Moresby last weekend and the turnout was not good as expected. However, we are expecting to hold a second fundraising drive in Port Moresby in October to raise the balance of the targetted amount of K300,000,” he said yesterday.
“We have sent out invitation letters to all business houses and corporate sectors in Lae, and I appeal to all of them to come forward and pledge their support in cash and in kind towards supporting our team in its bid to win medals.”
Mambare said that they were also looking for an official sponsorship of K100,000 from any business house or a corporate sector to become the official partner.
Meanwhile, another golf tournament fundraising drive will also be held on Friday, Sept 28, at the Lae Golf Club.
A fee of K1,000 is levied at all the participating teams and the business houses and corporate sectors are urged to participate.
The tournament will be followed by a gala dinner and entertainment in the evening.
