Flood victims get relief supplies

By PETER KORUGL
MORE relief supplies are going to the victims of floods and landslides in Morobe province.
The Disaster and Emergency Services in Lae are moving food supplies to victims in the Pindiu and Bukawa areas.
“We will move more supplies to the Burum-Kuat areas when our assessments of the situation up there are completed,” director of the Disaster and Emergency Services Roy Kamen said.
He said the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) of the Seventh-Day Adventists church donated five tonnes of rice and three drums of fuel towards the disaster relief programme.
“We are pleased with ADRA and Goodmen Fielders International for their donations. We are now working on moving these supplies donated by these good organisations to the people who need them,” Mr Kamen said.
He said there was still 10 tonnes of rice to be moved out of Lae and money would be needed to pay for the charter to move them out.
He said already K100,000 had been spent on charters and he was doing his best to find a plane for a cheaper rate.
