| Ex-town boss calls for support |
|
By GABRIEL FITO FORMER Wewak town manager Paul Hukahu has urged residents of Wewak town to continue giving their support to his successor if they want to see Wewak town develop. Speaking at the official handover-takeover ceremony at the Wewak Yacht Club last week, Mr Hukahu said there were some hardships he faced during his eight-year term as town manager because money was not readily available to implement approved projects. He said it was for this reason that people of Wewak needed to work together with the new manager if they want to see some tangible changes. Mr Hukahu was replaced by long time public servant David Tobena, who has taken charge of the Town Commission this month. Mr Tobena also expressed similar sentiments, adding he needed support from all sectors of the community including the provincial administration. Deputy provincial administrator Elisabeth Kaprangi said the town commission needed to collect revenue to support its activities, adding that the provincial administration does not have any money to support them. She stressed that it was important that the commission raised its own funds to support its administration especially at this time where funding is not available.
