Building up for a better future

GOROKA Body builders
and boxers are gearing to take on teams from Morobe and Western
Highlands at the Goroka Show this weekend.
Head of Sports Training and Development at the National Sports
Institute (NSI) Peter Aglua confirmed the preparation
yesterday).
He said 24 body builders and 20 amateur boxers from Eastern
Highlands gearing up to meet their rivals from Morobe and
Western Highlands in the two-day show.
“We have separate training programmes for the two codes at NSI
gymnasium targeting the third PNG Games to be hosted by Morobe
in Lae,” he said.
He said their participation at the Goroka show is to select a
training squad to represent Eastern Highlands province at the
PNG Games.
Likewise Morobe has selected 18 boxer and 12 bod builders to
travel Goroka to take on their Eastern Highlands rivals.
Mr Aglua said they are waiting for Western Highlands entries to
finalize a draw for the two day show down at the NSI show
ground.
He is confident that the body building performance and boxing
matches would be an added attraction for the Goroka show goers
this weekend.
He added that the events would part of the Boxing and Body
Building fraternity’s contribution towards celebrating
independence in a more meaningful manner.
The boxers from Morobe to fight at the show are Gillie Yama
(48kg), Silas John (51kg), Luke Bernard (54kg), Joe Ameng
(57kg), Charlie Rodney (60kg), Marting Kaustena (64kg), Paul
Aufa (69 kg), Douglas Walo (75 kg) and the reserve, Willie Masis
(48kg), Justin Menau (51kg), Rex Waisu (54kg), Tom Huria (57kg),
Kevin Sam (60kg), Hanry So’on (64kg), Roland Nemil (69 kg) and
Ginnie Kila (75kg).
Aron Mugaliong the Morobe team manager expressed confident in
his boys adding that they would give tough challenges to the
Eastern Highlands teams.
However, names for the Eastern Highlands athletes were not
available yesterday.
