Fuel shortage hinders arrest

LACK of fuel has prevented police in East Sepik from arresting an auxiliary policeman suspected of killing a primary school student in Angoram last month.
East Sepik provincial Police commander Leo Kabilo said yesterday they needed fuel for their outboard motor to travel across the Sepik River to the village of the suspect.
The auxiliary policeman fled to the safety of his village after the killing in fear of his life.
Police alleged that 18-year old Simon Manasa, a Grade 8 student at Bagi Primary School, died when he was punched and kicked near the old RSL club in Angoram on Aug 4.
Manasa was allegedly drinking homebrew with some of his friends, and got into a fight with the policeman.
Mr Kabilo said all investigations into the killing had been completed and police were expected to lay charges after they get hold of the suspect in his village and interview him.
