Now a mature 32
Your foster years is revered
When mama Aussie said walk
On a golden salver you did
Papa Somare led you serenely
Over razor edged peaks ascent
Of seas so turbulent you crossed
Special your years were
For they so loved you
Was adopted year in year out
By the Chans so as the Wingtis
The Namalius and Mekeres
Including the Skates
And twice fathered
By the Chief lately
Nurturing you in their own ways
Life however was
Naturally inconsistent
The unpredictable El Nino
Ever prevalent HIV/AIDS
And the murderous tsunami
Even more dramatic coz of motions
Of no confidence
Leading to politicking to coalitions
And the never ending reshuffles
To the bloody crisis
So fuelling the autonomous fever
Your political errands
At times vulnerable you were
For sporadically invaded your domain
Culminating to drugs, arms trafficking
But you endured
In times you established alliance
From within and abroad
Maintaining your bilateral dealings
And common understanding
It was a life in transition
Tribal warfare
State of emergency
Mutiny
And student riots
That shaped your destiny
All for progress
Shine PNG, forever

From teeming seas; and
Wooded vales;
Descending from lofty mountains
We come
Children; spawned
By a thousand cultures
Nursed by hope;
We come
To this place of Fate
This point in destiny’s timeline
We come
Drawn
By the heady
Heart stirring
Beat of the Garamut;
Marching
To the martial tone; of
The Kundu
We come
Together
To rejoice
For on this day; of all days
We are one; people
We are whole
