Plan for future, says Somare

By GABRIEL FITO
PRIME Minister Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare has appealed to Papua New Guineans to reflect on the achievements over the last 32 years and plan for the next 30 years.
Sir Michael said that while PNG celebrated 32 years of independence, Papua New Guineans should have a clear conscience of what they want to achieve over the next 30 years so that “we achieve the true objective of independence”.
The Prime Minister, who is also the East Sepik Regional MP, was speaking at the Prince Charles Oval in Wewak last Sunday during a colourful parade out on by members of the 2RPIR from Moem Barracks, ex-servicemen and school children.
Sir Michael said most people often wasted their time talking about small things that did not concern them, thus overlooking the potential they had in cash crop farming and animal husbandry including fishing and other small enterprises.
He said such attitudes must also change.
Sir Michael thanked the East Sepik people for giving him the mandate to rule again and spoke of the economic gains made by his Government.
He said in the recent supplementary budget, all 89 districts had been allocated K3 million each and therefore, all local level governments must work hard to ensure that services were delivered to the people.
