Sevua endorses withdrawal of petition against Dame Carol

ELECTION petitions judge Justice Mark Sevua last Friday dismissed three petitions and endorsed the withdrawal of a petition against Dame Carol Kidu filed by George Lavari.
Mr Lavari appeared before Justice Sevua and withdrew his petition claiming that his lawyer had “deserted” him.
Justice Sevua consented to the order to withdraw the case and suggested to Mr Lavari to consider taking his lawyer’s “desertion” claims to the PNG Law Society for “negligence”.
The three petitions the judge dismissed were against Lae MP Bart Philemon, Wabag MP Sam Abal and Esa’ala MP Moses Maladina.
They were dismissed for non-compliance of the rules of election petitions.
In dismissing the petitions, the judge said that if petitioners wanted to challenge the winner of the majority vote, they must follow the rules of election petitions.
