THE National Broadcasting Commission (NBC)
celebrated the launch of its first ever corporate plan last Friday.
Information and Communications Minister Patrick Tammur, who officiated
at the launch of the three-year plan, said it paved the way for the NBC
to rebuild itself with a new look and move forward.
Mr Tammur said the Government had allocated K21 million to NBC in which
under the corporate plan would allow for rehabilitation and maintenance
of NBC infrastructure nationwide.
The plan would also allow for the establishment of a K1.5 million
feasibility study into the NBC operating a National Television Station,
Mr Tammur further announced.
He said the officiating of the three-year corporate plan was his first
official duty as Information and Communication Minister and he was
honoured to do so.
Mr Tammur said he was proud of being part of the institution, which is
known as the voice of Papua New Guinea.
He acknowledged the good coverage done by the NBC of the 2007 general
election and the South Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.
Managing director of NBC Joseph Ealadona said the occasion was historic,
where NBC for the past 32 years had now a corporate plan.
Mr Ealadona said NBC’s incorporation in 1973 had united PNG since
independence through its broadcasts.
Outgoing chairman of the NBC Board Loani Henao described the occasion as
truly the dawn of a new era for NBC and would change the path of NBC for
the better in the near future.
Misima traditional dancers performed a dance escorting the corporate
plan to Mr Henao.
Mr Henao said the plan was a realistic, workable and achievable plan
which would take NBC forward to a new era.
