Amber beats the boys in historic win

ON Saturday POM Road Runners started the various race distances by doing a lap of the go-kart circuit of the POM Country Club in what was a newly designed course.
In the 3km sprint Titus Tobia stepped into high gear early and motored away from the rest of the field to take the chequered flag in a time of 13 mins 22 secs. Amber Cernovs grabbed her slice of history to be the only female to defeat the males in living road runner history. The two leaders in the 5.1km event, Kesa Nathan and Joe Kaikai, in not paying attention to race marshal’s direction ran an extra 500m by failing to take a required turn. Cernovs took advantage of their error and held on to win in a time of 22m 44s.
Pre-race intel proved 100% accurate when race favourites Milton Iakosi and Swans Pinampio were a no show on the starting grid. Premier middle distance runner Laurence Chandy was untroubled to win the 8.7 km event in 34s39m well ahead of Andrew Tully and James Gurumi. Thanks go to POM Country Club management for the use of their facilities.
Next week POMRR meet at St Theresa’s clinic, Hibiscus Street, Hohola for 4.1km and 7.7km events. Runners of all abilities are encouraged to attend and it is only 20t to participate.
