Tribesmen avenge death of murdered
relative: Cops

ANGRY relatives of a Mendi man allegedly murdered last weekend by his Pangia wife and brother-in-law went on a rampage.
Police said they attacked several homes of Pangia people in town to avenge for the man’s murder.

A Pangia father and his son living at North Kagua Street were taken hostage last Sunday morning but later released after Mendi leaders intervened.
The two, who suffered an eight-hour ordeal, were in shock after their release in the afternoon.
Police said the relatives also attacked the house of former provincial administrator Brian Pebo at Paga Hill where they allegedly commandeered two vehicles at Pebo’s residence.
Two vehicles owned by the Pangias were also seized and taken away. Police said Pangia people living and working in Mendi town fled for their lives following the incident.
The angry tribesmen from Kiburu village outside Mendi town went on a manhunt to avenge their relative’s alleged murder .
Police said the incident happened at Old Compound in Mendi last Saturday night when the victim went to visit the wife after learning that she was drinking alcohol and having extra-marital affairs. The two separated some years back.
The victim, identified as Paul Kepialu of Kiburu village, worked with Oil Search Ltd at Kutubu oil fields. He was on a weekend break when he was killed.
Police have yet to conduct an investigation.
