Prince Charles invited to PNG

PRIME Minister Sir Michael Somare has invited Prince Charles to Papua New Guinea to promote PNG’s initiative on climate change.
Sir Michael met the prince’s senior adviser on the Prince’s Rainforest Project Andrew Mitchell, who had been attending the high level climate change meetings in New York this week.
Sir Michael said he was very happy to learn from Mr Mitchell that Prince Charles has been following closely over a number of years, PNG’s efforts in ensuring that developing nations’ views are taken into consideration in addressing climate change and sustainable forestry.
“Mr Mitchell informed me that Prince Charles has been advocating business leadership on environmental issues and is encouraged by PNG’s contribution to the climate change debate.
“For this reason, I extended an invitation through Mr Mitchell for Prince Charles to visit PNG at a time convenient to him,” Sir Michael said.
At the same meeting, Sir Michael also pledged PNG’s support for Costa Rica’s foreign minister Bruno Stagno Ugarte for their membership to the United Nations Security Council, in order to gain prominence on PNG/Costa Rica rainforest nation’s initiative on climate change.
