Police headquarters’ phone lines disconnected

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK

THE Police Headquarters and the National Capital District/Central Division Headquarters in Port Moresby had their communications cut off due to outstanding telephone bills totalling K1.5million, police said yesterday.
And the divisional police headquarters for the Southern and Momase region are likely to follow suit due to outstanding bills totalling K500,000.
The police headquarters at Konedobu and the NCD/Central Division Headquarters had their telephone lines disconnected on Tuesday by Telikom technicians. The outstanding bills were incurred since June.
This situation will affect telephone communications between the senior police hierarchy at the headquarters with their officers throughout the country.
Currently, the staff at the headquarters and the NCD/Central Division Headquarters will only receive incoming calls but cannot call out.
Police Commissioner Gari Baki yesterday said that he was aware of it and would settle the bill next week when he returned to Port Moresby.
He is attending the election debriefing conference currently underway in Lae.
