THE Office of Rural Development (ORD) has reported that 16 out of the 109 MPs have yet to submit their district acquittals on the district development grants.
According to ORD, three MPs from the Momase region had their acquittals cleared and there were two more to submit theirs, including one from the Highlands region.
ORD’s managing director Paul Sai revealed this yesterday when he turned over a cheque for K1.3 million to the Minister for National Planning and Rural Development and member for Pomio Paul Tiensten.
The release of funds follows Mr Tiensten’s districts acquittals of the 2005-2006 development grants.
ORD released the funds after the district concerned met all acquittal processes in compliance with the relevant grants guidelines, Public Finance Management Act, including directives from the Ombudsman Commission.
Mr Sai also announced the Vice-Minister for Planning and Member for Lagaip-Pogera Philip Kikala will also receive his district’s funds of K2.6 million following proper acquittal of funds for 2005 and 2006.
Mr Tiensten told reporters at the gathering that those funds were not used before the elections.
He added the DDG was making a huge impact in small districts.
The money will be handed for use on approved projects by their joint district planning and budget priority committees.
