Madang after new NSL franchise
By KEVIN PAMBA
Madang is expected to have a new
franchise owner for its soccer team in the semi-professional
National Soccer League (NSL) competition due to kick off in
November.
The new franchise owner is said to be a major food manufacturing
company based in Lae.
The NSL executives were in Lae early this week flashing out the
deal with the company.
The initial franchise owner of the Madang Fox team was the then
Madang Open Member Alois Kingsley. Although Kingsley had
indicated that despite his election loss this year, his support
for the Madang Fox would continue, time has run out on NSL
organizers and the Lae-based company has been invited to take
over the Madang franchise.
NSL chairman, John Kapi-Natto said this week that Madang must
have a team in the semi-professional competition because of the
huge soccer following and the standard of the game is high
there.
“We have a huge following for soccer in Madang and the crowd
numbers are always big so we must have a franchise there,”
Kapi-Natto said.
The deal with the food manufacturer will be made public soon
after the formalities are sorted out.
