Somare Cup fever hits Kwikila town
By HENRY MORABANG
WITH home ground advantage,
Kwikila will start as favourite when they take on Titans for the
Somare Cup in the A grade Rugby League grand final at Kwikila
Station on tomorrow.
Played under the patronage of Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare,
the Cup is sending the small government station into frenzy.
People living along Magi Highway and onto Kwikila Road are
talking about the upcoming Somare Cup grand final.
Initiated by former NCD Governor and National Alliance
strongman, Wari Vele, the Rigo League is the only well
coordinated competition in the Southern region apart from Port
Moresby.
President of Rigo League Gwaibo Mairi said people are now
talking and breathing Somare Cup along the Magi Highway. There
is no topic apart from the clash of the two top Rigo clubs, the
Kwikila and the Titans.
The final showdown is expected to draw big crowd as far as Port
Moresby and other parts of Central province such as Kupiano and
Hula area.
It would be an interesting tussle as both teams have scored once
against each other, and the grand final would be the deciding
factor, who is the champion.
Kwikila will be relying on captain and Southern Zone
representative player Ron Ani. Ani will receive able support
from Teina Tamarua who are going to cause a lot of problems for
Titans.
In the backline, Kwikila has a very sneaky and fast backline in
Larry Willie, George Mareva and Maraga Enol who would certainly
give Titans a run for their money.
Titans – a combined team from two of the Rigo Rugby League
playing villages, Tauruba and Kemabolo, are all fired up and
ready for the big showdown tomorrow.
Fast finishing fullback Doge Vali, five-eighth Paita Ula and
halfback Tiko Bugana holds the key to the victory for Titans.
The will also receive support from their hardworking forwards
such as Guma Tau, Romalius Gwaibo, Albert Kabana, Titans are
ready cause an havoc for their opposition come Saturday.
