Lahi win U21 title

LAHI became the new junior netball queens after defeating Port Moresby (1) in the grand final of the Flame Under 21 national junior netball championships at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae yesterday.
Newcomers Madang also dethroned Port Moresby (1) 26-22 to become the queens of Under 17 title, Port Moresby edged Central 29-25 to claim the Under 15 title, and Port Moresby pipped Lahi 29-28 for the Under 13 title.
Elated Lahi coach Josephine Ila thanked his girls for putting up a great performance and went through the championships undefeated to claim the major honours for the first time.
“We were confident and the girls played together as a team, went throughout the three-day championships undefeated and took the court with determination to beat the highly fancied Port Moresby outfit for the U21 crown. It is a big bonus to all of them,” Ila said.
Rhonda Kerha from Central won took out the best shooter’s award in the Under 21 division and Tohana Vagi from Goroka won the best defender award.
Tina Gagina from Port Moresby won the best shooters award in the Under 17 division and Lamba Lua also from Port Moresby took out the best defender award
Tournament director Boe Lahui congratulated Lahi for winning the Under 21 grand final saying that the competition started on a high note and ended well last night.
“I want to thank all the participating teams from all over PNG and also the sponsor Goodman Fielder International for sponsoring the national championships this year,” Lahui said.
