NGO leaders slam Moti cover-up

THE presidents of four non-governmental organisations (NGOs) who led in the fight against corruption and the Motigate issue have described the latest Defence Minister Bob Dadae’s statement as a “cover up” for the Prime Minister.
The NGOs have labelled the Minister’s response as cheap rhetoric only to create the time for the issue to be watered down.
“It is appropriately high time the Minister for Defence and Prime Minister take full responsibilities as duly elected leaders to face the consequences of their action instead of looking at ways to buy time that will eventually fade away the seriousness of any wrongdoing.
“It is simple that the Defence Minister endorsed the tribunal’s finding and recommendations and refer those implicated to the law enforcement agencies to deal with without unnecessary delays,” the NGO leaders said in a joint statement.
They said the National Court had rejected the Prime Minister’s bid to nullify the report, therefore the minister must in all fairness and good governance, act accordingly.
The statement was signed by Philip Kepan, president of Eda Hanua Moresby Inc, Victor Kongop, president of PNG Millennium Good Governance; Noel Anjo, president PNG National Awareness Front; and Benjamin Pokapen representing NCD Informal Youth Association.
“It is obvious that the Prime Minister had no respect for democracy and its rules by accepting legally instituted tribunal and its findings.”
The NGOs claimed that the Prime Minister’s action showed that there was one separate law for ordinary people and another one for the privileged.
