Positive living encouraged

By SENT TIMBI
PEOPLE living with the HIV/AIDS virus in Mt Hagen have been encouraged to beat the virus by breaking down the stigma and discrimination associated with the disease.
To provide the inspiration was Helen Samilo, who was in the Highlands city last week to conduct a week-long course which was attended by 20 people living with HIV/AIDS, who come from a group called ‘True Warriors
Organisation’.
Ms Samilo, a person living with the virus, appeared on the inspirational EMTV programme called Helen’s Story.
She travelled to Mt Hagen after conducting a similar course in Alotau.
The courses, supported by the PNG Red Cross, Igat Hope and Anglicare Stop AIDS, are aimed at encouraging people living with the virus to live positively.
Apart from promoting positive living, Ms Samilo challenged the people living with the virus to provide good leadership in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS in their communities.
She taught them how to avoid and fight stigma and discrimination from the people in their communities.
Ms Samilo said living a positive life went hand in hand with taking the anti-retroviral drugs available in the Teninga clinic.
