GOVERNOR of Western Highlands Tom Olga last Friday urged the media not
to paint a bad picture of the province.
Reacting to news of youths entering Kapal Haus last Wednesday and chased
public servants out of their offices over alleged lack of payment for
service rendered, Mr Olga pleaded for time for him to settle in and
prove himself.
Mr Olga said he would not make any cash payments for any jobs rendered
pending a thorough audit of the province’s accounts.
He told reporters at a press conference last Friday that the actual “on
the ground” situation in his home city was not the way it was being made
to look in the media.
“I was there last weekend and earlier in the week. The situation on the
ground is not as bad as the media paints it to be,” he said.
He added that he was in his new capacity as governor for the first month
of the current transitional period from the previous government.
Mr Olga said people should not jump to conclusions and give him at least
six months to one year and then “assess my leadership”.
He said the dissatisfaction shown as reported in the media was only by a
small minority group asking for their allowances.
He said he was not making any payments.
He said all the accounts for the province must be properly audited
before “I sign any cheques”.
Mr Olga said he was preparing the province’s corporate plan to be
unveiled soon.
