Officers warned

By ELIZABETH MIAE

NATIONAL Forest Authority’s managing director Kanawi Pouru has given a stern warning to all his officers based in various project sites that they will be terminated if they are found to be misusing landowner’s funds.
Mr Pouru said this when closing a week-long Southern region Forest workshop last Friday in Port Moresby.
He made it clear in front of his management and all field officers that he was imposing zero tolerance on the issuing of funds by officers, who he said tended to make decisions on their own without consultation.
Mr Pouru said he had received reports of some officers imposing extra taxes and charges on top of landowner’s royalty payments and urged them to refrain from such practices.
“Officers are making their own decisions. Get to know the procedures about the issuing of funds,” he said
“We have a system that works but we are not making use of it.”
