New tools needed

By ELIZABETH MIAE
FIELD officers at the Southern regional forest workshop have called on their management to seriously address their need for new equipment to carry out work in their respective project sites.
They raised concerns about the need for more scaling and surveying equipment and safety equipment for the officers and computers for the provincial offices.
One officer told the meeting how they were heavily relying on the logging companies to provide them with computers and other office equipment which the authority should have been providing.
The officers were assured that the management would look into the matter.
Another issue raised was in relation to the usage of logs by companies to build bridges and other infrastructure.
Chief scaler Ivo Kusip pointed out that the companies were required to pay royalties to the landowners for using the logs for other purposes and it was the job of the officers to make sure that was done.
According to him, all the logs cut were accounted for even if they were going to be used to build infrastructure.
