Origin Energy opens new gas
terminal in Alotau
ORIGIN Energy opened a gas terminal in Alotau, Milne Bay
province, as a vote of confidence in the business community.
The Alotau terminal opening was the third in the country this
year after Goroka in the Eastern Highlands and Kavieng in the
New Ireland province.
The company now has a vast network from Port Moresby to Lae, Mt
Hagen, Rabaul, Goroka and Wewak.
Origin Energy general manager William Lamur told a small
gathering of Alotau business house representatives that despite
the terminal’s small size, it still had to conform to the strict
safety and fire requirements and regulations.
He said despite the size, it was a huge investment for the
company.
“The investment of K200,000 was well spent showing the
confidence of the company in the community,” he said.
Mr Lamur added that cooking with gas was the way to go in the
future especially in maintaining a cleaner and greener
environment.
The terminal will supply liquid petroleum gas bottles in various
sizes while its showroom will sell a variety of gas stoves, oven
and other cooking items.
It also has a range of gas appliance and fittings.
Meanwhile, Alotau town manager Sanori Elliot said in reply that
companies like Origin were welcome in Alotau.
“The company’s image to keep the country clean with its gas
products was in line with the Alotau urban local level
government’s push to keep Alotau clean,” he said.
The invited guests were taken on a tour of the terminal and
showroom by Mr Lamur and some of the company representatives.
The new gas terminal is managed by supervisor Teddi Cameron.
Origin Energy was represented by Mr Lamur, sales manager Bill
Wartovo, PNG distribution manager Steven Morodau and Mr Cameron.
The terminal is located opposite the old Steamships warehouse.
