Fallen police officers honoured in Lae parade

By SHEILA LASIBORI
POLICE officers who died while in the line of duty were remembered during a parade last Friday in Lae.
The parade of Defence Force, Correctional Service and police officers including a platoon of policewomen was witnessed by the members of the Lae community, former police commissioners and heads of PNGDF, CS and Police.
A two-minute silence was observed while a CS bugler played the Last Post.
Internal Security Minister Sani Rambi reviewed the parade which was hosted by Police Commissioner Gari Baki.
“The men and women who died in the service of this great country of ours are people of value, people who deserved the greatest respect and honour the government and the people can accord to them,” Mr Rambi said.
Mr Baki also spoke highly of those who lost their lives, those who greatly suffered from injuries and illness and those attacked by law offenders while carrying out their duties.
During the service, prayers were offered by police chaplains and hymns were sung.
Mr Baki led a group of dignitaries which included Mr Rambi, CS Commissioner Richard Sikani and former Police Commissioner Peter Aigilo in the laying of wreaths at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium.
Those who were remembered during the service were officers from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Solomon Islands, and PNG.
Last Friday was also the end of the week-long national election (NATEL) debrief.
