THE Media Council of PNG (MCPNG) staged for the first time the PNG Media
Awards last Saturday at the Holiday Inn in Port Moresby.
The awards night was different from the previous years.
A call for nominations was made earlier and a judging panel comprising
persons outside the media council screened all the entries and finalised
the selection which was announced on the presentation night.
The MCPNG aimed to set the benchmark in its efforts to not only
recognise and appreciate efforts of all personnel in the media industry
but also raise the standards and improve the image which at times was
criticised more often than most.
The media awards night was themed “Recognising and Acknowledging
Excellence for 2006 and 2007.”
Awards for the best news story in the print media went to Simon Eroro of
South Pacific Post for his exposure on the cult movement in Oro,
Northern province.

coverage of a criminal court case involving Indonesian consulate in
Vanimo, which she tracked for a year until April 2007.

Post Courier, Jobby Paiva of CDI FM and Scott Waide of EMTV for their
PINA award-winning story on the long road ahead featuring Woitape
community school on Goilala.
