China urges PNG on free info
exchange
THE Chinese Embassy in Port Moresby
has asked Government agencies to strengthen the bi-lateral
relationship between Papua New Guinea and China to allow the
free flow and exchange of information.
Chinese Ambassador to PNG Wei Ruixing made the call while
hosting a reception for the delegation from the China council
for the promotion of international trade (CCPIT) and officers
from the Commerce and Industry Department and the Investment
Promotion Authority.
The 12-member CCPIT delegation was headed by the vice-chairman
Zhang Wei who met with representatives from the private and
Government sector for the parties to exchange views on business
and trade related activities.
CCPIT met with the Business Council of PNG (BCPNG) and then
followed by a courtesy call on the Minister for Commerce and
Industry Gabriel Kapris.
BCPNG president Henry Kila briefed the delegation on the
business climate in PNG and outlined some of the business
requirements they would expect to encounter and operate under
should they invest in the country.
Mr Kapris told the visitors that being in the portfolio for only
three weeks, he was already excited to see the types of people
visiting the country to discuss investment related matters.
He said China had a lot to do with various Government projects
in the country and the Government was willing to work closely
with them through its embassy in PNG.
He further said that trade and economic relations between the
two countries continued to reach new heights due to PNG's desire
to diversify its sources of trade and investment to adapt to the
global market forces “under the socialist market economy with
Chinese characteristics”.
Mr Kapris mentioned of China’s biggest investment in the country
which is the development of the Ramu nickel mine in Madang
province being carried out by the China Metallurgical Group.
“The Government of PNG hopes that with the major investment
project by the China Metallurgical Group, it will generate more
confidence in China, especially amongst the business communities
to invest in PNG,” he said.
