First palm oil output by Dec, says RSL

RAMU Sugar Ltd (RSL) has reported the palm oil mill is nearing completion with the first oil production due in December.
“This means that during the current financial year your company will be producing and selling crude palm oil and cattle and beef products, as well as sugar, molasses and ethanol.
“The prospects for palm oil look very promising,” RSL board chairman of Peter Colton told the board during its 28th annual meeting.
The board decided to approve an increase in the planted area from 5,500ha to 7,500ha.
This will enable RSL to increase the capacity throughput of the mill from 30 tonnes per hour (tph) to 45tph to fit in with the full-foot print of the foundations and buildings.
Mr Colton said: “As I mentioned in my address last year, your board’s vision is to build on Ramu’s competitive advantage and synergies and change it from a one product company into the premier PNG agri-industrial business.”
RSL has in effect accelerated its expansion plans because the yields were better than projected alongside the buoyant state of the palm oil market.
