Lihir Gold soars on ASX

LIHIR Gold shares have soared by A$0.18 to surpass A$4 for the first time and hit a new record high of A$4.12 a share on the back of rising world gold prices.
Despite a Labour Day holiday in Sydney, turnover remained strong with 12.9 million Lihir shares changing hands during the day.
Steamships Trading also hit a record high of A$9.10, up A$0.14, on a turnover of 718 shares.
Allied Gold, which has fallen from last week's record high of A$0.71, gained A$0.02 yesterday to close at A$0.665, while copper-molybdenum explorer Marengo Mining rose A$0.03 to A$0.39.
Highlands Pacific gained A$0.05 to A$0.125 while Emperor Mines gained A$0.016. Frontier went against the trend, shedding A$0.01 to A$0.15.
