YOUNG Bougainvilleans have been challenged to respect one another as fellow
human beings.
President of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville Joseph Kabui issued the
challenge following reports of two deaths in Buka recently.
In making the call, Mr Kabui strongly urged young people of Bougainville to show
respect and love for one another, adding there is no need to take away the life
of another person.
He asked “why we should go on killing and hating each other when Bougainville
needs us?”
“Every citizen of Bougainville has a right to live and need the support of each
other just as much as Bougainville needs us.”
Mr Kabui appealed to all Bougainvilleans to refrain from taking the law into
their own hands and start to enjoy the good things achieved through the
Bougainville peace agreement.
He also urged them to listen to advice of their parents, chiefs as well as other
leaders in their community.
Mr Kabui said the murder in Buka town had now created ill feelings and hatred
among the relatives and communities of those involved, a situation that could
have been avoided and not allowed to happen if there was respect for human life.
He urged young people to behave and conduct themselves in a way that could not
cause disharmony within families, the community, region and country as a whole.
On the same token, the president has also called on chiefs in the region and
parents to discipline their children in the right way.
Meanwhile, the president has commended the chairman for Tsitalato Council of
Chiefs (CoE) Joseph Gatana and Minister for Trade and Industry Joseph Watawi and
other leaders for their effort in bringing the situation under control.
Mr Kabui said Bougainville had enough of this and there must be an end to these
senseless killings of innocent people.
