St John meet vital: Strachan
THE 4th Asia Pacific Conference for St John Priories and Associations in the region held last month in Port Moresby was an opportunity for St John Associations throughout the region to come together with large St John organisations such as the Priory of Australia, New Zealand and Canada to share ideas, experiences and discuss how to assist each other to improve St John services. Hosting the St John Asia Pacific Regional Conference in PNG was significant as St John prepares to celebrate 50 years of service to the people of PNG, deputy lord prior of Te Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem John Strachan said. PNG will celebrate 50 years of St John’s services from Nov 27 to Dec 2. The Grand Prior of The Order of St John and Duke of Gloucester will also be visiting PNG during that time.

Peace reigns in Gor
LEADERS from Naur tribe living in the Kundiawa/Gembogl district, Simbu province, has reported peace and harmony after a year of initiating community policing and setting up community law in the Gor area. The tribe comprising of eight clans told the provincial police commander Joseph Tondop, Fr Jan Jaworski, Kundiawa/Gembogl MP Joe Mek Teine, district administrator Paul Kune, AusAID representative Francis Kup from the Community Development Scheme and a huge crowd gathered at Papnigle community school last Friday that criminal activities in the Gor area had dropped and people were living peacefully.

40 Mile market to get facelift
THE popular 40-Mile market, along the Highlands Highway in Markham will be developed properly. A spokesman for the Department of Morobe confirmed that better facilities for the vendors would be built and that was why the place had been given a clean up. The Huon district administration was taking charge of the development. 40 Mile market is located in the Wampar local level government area and is known for its betelnut and watermelon. It operates 24 hours, providing travellers using the Highlands Highway snacks, fresh betelnut, coconuts, fruits and fuel.

Delivery van robbed at Bumayong
ARMED robbers held up a Lae Bakery delivery van and robbed the driver of K1,154.30 in cash and scones and bread worth K199 at Bumayong in Lae last Wednesday afternoon.
Metropolitan commander chief Supt Nema Mondiai said that about 20 to 30 youths armed with two factory-made pistols and bush knives held up the driver of the Toyota Hiace 15-seater van of the Lae Bakery Company at around 2pm near the Second Seven cemetery while he was on delivery runs into the Bumayong area.
Mr Mondiai said the suspects escaped on foot into the area after stealing the cash and goods.
He said police have yet to arrest any suspects but were investigating.
Mr Mondiai said that a man was also robbed by two suspects at the Four Mile area last Wednesday.
He said at around 9am, the victim was walking past 4 Mile from 5 Mile to catch a PMV bus and whilst approaching the Sawdust corner, two men armed with bush knives held him up and robbed him of K400 in cash, a Digicel mobile phone valued at K49, bank card and an identification card.
