A SENIOR police detective
charged with spreading rumours that led to a raid on fellow senior
detectives’ houses will appear before the District Court in Port Moresby
today, police said yesterday.
Officer-in-charge of the national drug squad Snr Insp Kapo Lua will
appear before the Boroko District Court on charges of false and
misleading report that led to a raid on the houses of three of his
fellow senior detectives in search of police-issued firearms suspected
to have been stolen last Jan 10.
Lua, 54, from Mapatu village, Abau district in Central province, was
charged with spreading
false rumours that an AR15and HK rifles with a Sig 9mm pistol that were
issued to the now-disbanded National Crime Squad (NCS)
had been stolen by former crime director Chief Inspector Victor Isouve.
He also spread similar rumours that the firearms were with former NCS
officer-in-charge Snr Insp
Lincoln Gerari and Insp Sengi
Laki.
Mr Laki was formerly attached to the NCS.
Based on Lua’s information, armed police officers with a search warrant
went and raided Mr Isouve’s house at Tokam barracks
at about 6am in search of the firearms.
Mr Gerari’s house at Bomana Police College and Mr Laki’s house at Games
barracks experienced similar encounter with the armed police officers
respectively at around the same time.
Mr Lua is now under suspension for an indefinite period and is on bail
of K50.
