Table tennis has villages interested

AN executive of the Papua New Guinea Table Tennis Federation (PNGTTF) has called for more promotion of the code in the villages.
PNGTTF treasurer, Rea Loi made this call after staging a successful juniors’ championship in Tubusereia village, Central province.
The competition attracted more than 50 participants from within the village alone who have a good following of table tennis. The divisions were U11, U13 and U16 male, mix team in both singles and doubles.
“The youngsters showed a lot of skills and we have seen that there is huge interest in this age category. The village tournament has attracted a lot of children,” Loi said.
He plans to take the concept to other provinces so that the development of the code is widespread.
The event would not be successful without the big support in dressing up the players courtesy of National Teachers Insurance Ltd, under the assistance of Raka Taviri. The company has been a full supporter of the sport.
The results for the weekend are: Singles, Boto Kila , runner-up Geoffrey Loi (U11),David Loi, runner-up Percy Ligo (U13), Doubles-Sibo Mick Daroa, Jack Willie, Runner-up Douvere Momo and Kopi Joe (U13), Singles David Loi, runner-up Percy Ligo (U16), Doubles Manau Kema, David R Loi, runner up Segore Bae and Madi Asi (U16) and the Junior ladies winner Treena Loi and runner-up Samantha Loi.
