Full Kumul support
A former Papua New Guinea Kumul has pledged full support behind
the Corporate Nines rugby league competition. Former PNG Kumuls
centre Richard Wagambie said the competition is of best interest
for all employees in the corporate circle as it will enhance
good working relationship with organisations.
Wagambie is a caretaker coach for the Air Niugini team and is
anticipating a good challenge with other corporate bodies. He
said the arrangement of companies to market products and
showcase their companies work every Friday night during the
competition was of great importance as it would make each
corporate bodies be familiar with each other, making business
easier.
“I fully support the competition as it will help employees fit
and healthy not only that but build a good relationship with
each other,” Wagambie said.
So far the Air Niugini team has paid its affiliation fee and
interest is high among employees with 30-40 young men on
training list. A full medical check and commitment to training
will guarantee a player a spot in the team. The official
training starts today with the competition to kick start in
November.
Wagambie said a final 17-man squad is required by organizers but
due to shift workers the team will select 30 employees to
represent Air Niugini. The final team will be announced in a few
weeks time.
“A lot of employees have shown a lot of interest and it is good
to have young men in the team compared to past years,” Wagambie
said. He intends to affiliate a team to the Port Moresby Rugby
League in 2009.
Momase Cup date set
THE 2007 Momase Regional Association Cup tournament will be held
in the mining town of Wau, Morobe province, on Nov 7-11. PNGFA
general secretary Dimrit Mileng confirmed the venue in a press
statement, saying that Wau will play host to tournament and only
those associations who are affiliated member of PNGFA in 2006
are eligible to take part.
Mileng said all the member player registration fees must be paid
by this week, and the bank deposit details faxed to the
secretariat office together with the full list of all the
players’ names. A nomination fee of K300 must be paid into PNGFA
operations account number 1000146403 with Bank South Pacific in
Lae.
He said all the nomination fees should be paid by October 19 and
a penalty fee will be imposed for late nominations. This will
enable the secretariat to prepare a tournament handbook and ID
cards for all the players.
Youth Club all geared up
KELERAKWA Youth Club (KYC) is aiming to give as many of its
Nines league players as much national exposure as possible. This
is with the belief that impressive forms would convert into
provincial national selection.
The players have been approved for the October and November
trial matches. The executives will give every opportunity to its
players to attend this year’s Southern Regions 9s in December.
“In the past we had many problems with administration and as a
result we did not attend last year’s tournament,” the club
executives said.
The committee has named two strong training squads which will
eventually trim down to the required number for the 9s
tournament.
The training for the Port Moresby-based players will start on
Thursday. A total of 70 players were selected for both senior
players and development squad.
