K1.4million for Finschhafen road equipment

THE Member for Finschhafen Theo Zurenuoc said his joint district budget priority (JDBPC) committee has approved K1.4 million of its District Transport Improvement Plan to purchase three road construction equipment to assist in repairing roads in his electorate that have been affected by the recent flood and mudslides last August.
Mr Zurenuoc said a dozer, grader and an excavator would be purchased to assist in road repair and maintenance work.
He added that the JDBPC also approved K35,000 for a feasibility study to construct solid foot bridges that could with stand natural disasters such as floods and mudslides in his area.
The August flood and mudslide disaster had severely affected over 20,000 people in the Finschhafen district.
Mr Zurenuoc said the destruction of the Mogi Bridge had cut off links of the population towards Pindiu in the Hube local level government area and the Burum-Kuat local level government area, to Lae causing them to miss out on various services.
He asked if the Department of Works had plans to assist the electorate in constructing a new bridge.
He made the comments in a short interview in Parliament yesterday.
