St Joseph’s to teach NSW curriculum plan

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK
ST Joseph’s International Catholic School in Port Moresby has made history by being authorised to teach its students with an Australian state education curriculum alongside the local programme, school principal Peter Mays said yesterday.
“This is also the first international school in the country to take on board an international curriculum apart from the national curriculum.
“The students, starting from preparatory classes to Grade 12, will be taught using the New South Wales (NSW) curriculum starting next year’s academic year.
“The Grade 10 and 12 students can sit separately for their end-of-the-year-higher school certificate examinations for PNG and NSW by next year.”
Currently, there are 740 students in preparatory classes to Grade 10. Grade 11 classes will start next year.”
Mr Mays said the NSW education authority had assessed and recognised their school’s quality of services it provided to their students.
“We had met their tough requirements and so they approved our request to take on board their (NSW) curriculum.
“The NSW curriculum is accredited to a lot of recognised international universities.
“And our students can be accepted in those universities once they passed the NSW examinations,” Mr Mays said.
