Security guard shot dead by raskols

MORE than 10 armed criminals believed to be targeting the Port Moresby Golf Club’s collection from its weekly joker draw shot dead a senior guard early yesterday morning.
The supervisor was shot in the head and died instantly.
It was learnt that he went after the criminals who had climbed over a brick wall to enter the club at about 3am.
The criminals, some armed with pistols and possibly an M16 rifle, were believed to have fled empty-handed.
A club staff, who asked not to be identified, said that after climbing over a wall, the criminals overpowered a guard at the main entrance into the clubhouse.
They tied the guard up with his belt and a towel.
The supervisor spotted some of the criminals in the car park and gave chase when he was shot by the other criminals.
On Tuesday night, the club attracted scores of members and guests hoping to win its joker draw jackpot which had risen to more than K90,000 in the past few months.
It was believed that the criminals were eyeing the collection made from the ticket sales as well as drinks and food.
A week ago, a departmental secretary was held up during a round of golf at about 1pm by raskols who were after his pistol.
When they found that he was not carrying one, they took his golf clubs instead.
The club’s management later managed to negotiate for the return of the golf clubs.
