Credit scheme gives out K90,000 in loans

THE Wewak District Credit Scheme has given out about K90,000 in loans since its inception in October 2005.
Fund manageress Wilma Jerewai, who represents the Division of Commerce in East Sepik province, said a total of K86,506.75 had been given out to successful applicants.
Addressing the Wanem samting i kamap programme on Radio Wewak recently, Mrs Jerewai said the first batch payment of K28,841 was paid to eight of the 10 applicants last June while the second batch received K57,665.75, of whom 18 of the 26 people were paid.
She said a balance of K93,493.25 was held at the National Development Bank (formerly Rural Development Bank), which would cater for the third batch.
She also made it clear that there would be no more new applications until further notice from the NDB and fund managers.
The scheme was the brainchild of former Wewak MP Kimson Kare, who allocated K200,000 seed funding towards the poverty alleviation exercise in his electorate.
