More swim medals

BOROKO Swimming club picked up four medals – two silver and two bronze at the Brisbane Spring Sprint Long Course competition last Saturday at the Chandler Pool Complex.
Barbara Leana-Vali and Stanford Gore won the silver medals in their respective events 100m women’s breastroke and the 50m men’s butterfly swim in the 11-year-old age group.
Nine-year old Riley Albrecht won two bronze in 50m backstroke in the field of 36 swimmers and also 50m butterfly to set a new personal best time of 41.57.
In the 11-year old group, Leana-Vali swam a personal best time of 1:29.22 and Gore hit the wall in a personal best time of 33.54 to receive a silver medal placing.
There were many more pleasing moments with eight-year-old Shanice Paraka swimming a personal best time in her 50 freestyle event 40.09 coming in as 7th fastest competitor out of 39 competitors.
In her 50m backstroke event Paraka swam a personal best time of 45.10 ranking her the 4th fastest out of 36 swimmers. She also competed in the 50m breastroke 1:01.80 and 50m butterfly 53.63.
Nine-year-old Michelle Gore, sister to silver medallist Stanford Gore swam a personal best time in the 50m freestyle 45.35, 50m backstroke 50.88 and the 50m butterfly 49.83.
Tem-year-old Elizabeth Witham swam 38.72 in her 50m freestyle event, 48.27 in her 50m backstroke event and 51.92 in the girls 10-year-old 50m breastroke event. In her 100m breastroke Witham swam 1:53.26 and a personal best time of 46.12 in the 50m butterfly.
Eleven-year-old Leana-Vali after receiving her silver medal in the 100m breastroke swam in the 50m freestyle event swimming a personal best time of 32.88 while team mate Victoria Allen swam 34.72, also a personal best time. 100m Freestyle saw both girls swim, Leana-Vali 1:14.09 and Allen 1:19.33.
In the female 11-year-old 50m backstroke Allen swam a 42.10 while in the 50m Breastroke event Leana-Vali swam into fourth place stopping the clock at 41.83 in what was an exciting race with only 0.56 hundredths of a second separating 2nd and 4th place. Leana-Vali then went on to swim the 50m butterfly, stopping the clock in a time of 38.48.
Our young male swimmers also swam personal best times with nine-year-old Sankalp Gosalia stopping the clock in the 50m freestyle 48.61 and the 50m backstroke 53.64.
In the 11-year-old age group 50m freestyle Stanford Gore swam a personal best time of 32.24 ranking him 11th fastest in a field of 48 swimmers. Ishan Guru swam a personal best time of 36.70 alongside fellow team mate Zackery Caradus 37.97 in the same event.
In the 100m freestyle Gore clocked 1:19.06 while Caradus swam a personal best time of 1:26.28.
In the 50m backstroke for male 11-year-old Gore swam a personal best time of 38.42 ranking him the 7th fastest while Zackery Caradus completed the 50m event in a time of 53.71.
In the 50m breastroke Guru swam into 6th place in a time of 42.77 with team mate Gore swimming into 12th place with a finish time of 44.70.
In the male 11-year-old 50m butterfly event Caradus swam 49.86 to round off what was a great day of competition.
