Helping hands of K5,000 for PNG to
Paralympic Games
TWO good Samaritans used their
initiative to donate K5,000 to the PNG Paralympic Committee to
kick start its fundraising for the 2008 Paralympic Games in
Beijing, China, next year.
The committee needs more than K100,000 to send a team of
powerlifting and athletes to the Games.
The business partners, Bernard Chan and ageless Dadi Toka handed
over the K5,000 cheque to PNGPC honourary president Dr Kefu Ma
recently in Port Moresby.
Dr Ma thanked Chan and Toka for their financial support and was
delighted with the help because his committee had not thought
about asking the public for help.
“I am very thankful to Mr Chan and Mr Toka for their kind
generosity to chip in their financial support.”
Dr Ma said PNG Paralympic Committee does not have enough money
in its account to send a sizable team to the Beijing Games next
year, and his committee will have to work extra hard to raise
sufficient money.
He said he wants to do that in line with what the president of
the International Paralympic Committee Sir Philip Craven have
requested.
Sir Philip wanted more participants from PNG to take part in the
Beijing Games.
