Madang names squad

The Madang Basketball Squad started training last week and is looking forward to competing in the upcoming All-Stars National Championships in Ramu on Oct 19-21.
The men squad: Darius Jerome, Eddie Mark, Ray Parangkei, Tommy Bobby, Hauka Miria, Skala Mirou, Junior Foxy, John Kaipu, Cedrick Kulu, Godfrey Moaitz, Albert Diulo, George Pasum, Lawrence Sapaka, Karu Mitaharo, Samson Kakebia, John Berigame, James Levo, Chanel Buritoa, Morris Konandi, Steven Kaiba, Terry Konien, Christopher Topa, Ainui Kunsei, Roger Salum, Charlie Suguman and Elvin Lifu.
The women squad: Glenda Sasa, Rose Parangkei, Nesta Sape, Grace Taku, Regina Sape, Antonia Akil, Gloria Dimag, Doreen Naram, Sandra Namugu, Solange Lobbo, Rachel Singar, Tinnie Kupeng, Serah Konde, Trudy Sieland, Rexina Rex, Debbie Moses, Dong Kaukesa and Ronnie Pomat.
The head coach is Miri Aiori and the team manager Andy Taku.

Soccer gains momentum

THE volleyball village of Vabukori just outside Port Moresby has turned to soccer which strikes the village every weekend. The Manubada Soccer Association (MASA) has reached momentum with teams giving each other a good run.
Last weekend saw a good match in the men’s main game between Southern Seaside and Kuni Bombers. This match was hard fought with both teams performing to their best but Seaside was a much better team in the end winning 3-2. Seaside went ahead 8 minutes from kick-off when Stanley Raka fired his first goal into the net and led 1-0 at half time. After the break Bombers adjusted their game plan and came strongly with a goal from mid-fielder Peter Oki. Seaside won 3-2
In the other matches Kedewa drew with Javas 2-2, bottom team KPT Lighthouse also drew with competition leaders Fox 2-2. In the U12 division Kedewa drew nil-all with Javas, and Fox beat KPT Lighthouse 2-0.
In the U17 Southern Seaside beat Kuni 2-1, Kedewa beat Javas 4-0, Light House 0 v Fox 0, and Kuni 0 v Seaside 0.
In the women’s, Seaside beat Bombers 1-0. In the Open men’s Fox leads with 31 points, Seaside 28, Kuni 26, Javas 23, Kedewa 20 and Lighthouse 17.

Corporate bowls start

LAE Corporate Bowls competition will start the round four of its corporate competition tonight at the Lae Bowls Club. Lae Bowls Secretary Albert Barakeina said 24 teams took part in round for of Lae Corporate Bowls last night.
The competition runs for six weeks before the final series start. “Defending champions Coca-Cola are looking forward to defend its round three title and will be out in full force to field a strong side in round four to take on other teams and to maintain its top form and to win the corporate bowls in round four,” Barakeina said.
New teams who are interested to take part in the corporate bowls challenge should contact Barakeina at Lae Bowls on telephone number 4723840.

Squad of 24 named

A 24-man training squad was selected for the Wel Gris Highlander for the National Soccer League championship next month. The players were selected from various teams participating in the Mount Hagen Soccer Association.
Team Manager Pius Letenge said the squad started training last month at Kiminiga Barracks oval. The squad: Anton Pipi, Kalawa William, Yukute Bupu, Pedro Ajakopa, Ungia Aiopa, Paddy Reuben, Alfred Kolowa, Gillie Olongtot, Robert Upaiga, Mathias Apo, Samuel Kini, Koriak Upago, Andrew Apo, Becken Yanum, Peter Tawelo, Philip Apo, Arron Japu, Basa Zureka and Robert Sipa.
The games will start on Nov 3 and will be played in Goroka, Lae, Madang and Port Moresby.

Wanderers finish on top

WANDERERS are minor premiers in men’s division of NCD Hockey League after last Sunday game at Murray Barrracks. They secured top spot after a convincing win over Koukou while Zoggole finished second, followed by Gabagaba on third and Spy Guineapigs on fourth.
