Rubbish-filled city a health hazard

By JAMES APA GUMUNO
MT Hagen city is filled with rubbish which poses a big health risk to city residents and visitors.
The rubbish is on the streets while residential areas are covered with bushes and that is raising concern among concerned leaders living outside the city.
Former council president for Hagen local level government Joe Moka said the city was in a mess and needed a major clean-up.
Mr Moka said the National Government must pass a law saying that city councillors must be people who own businesses in the city.
He said people who own businesses in the city were more concerned for the city than the ordinary people elected as councillors.
Mr Moka said this was not for Mt Hagen city only but the same must apply in other two cities in the country.
He said cities needed competent people with vast experiences in running public administration to manage it.
Mr Moka said that he had travelled to other countries and saw that city councillors elected were big business people and not just ordinary people.
