Lagea wants MoA to be reviewed immediately

By HARLYNE JOKU
KAGUA-Erave MP James Lagea is calling for an immediate review of the Gobe memorandum of agreement with developer Oil Search.
Mr Lagea said this was urgently needed to iron out land disputes related to the project.
He further supported Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari’s call to review royalty and equity payments to landowners.
Mr Lagea said the oil at Gobe was about to run out and when it is gone, there should remain tangible investment for his people and the electorate.
He said many landowners from his electorate had squandered almost K100 million worth of royalties in the past years since the project started, without any tangible investments outside or within their electorate.
Mr Lagea said as MP, he would draw up a 10-year plan for the electorate to ensure that money received from Gobe would be used sustainably especially into agricultural, road and infrastructure projects.
He said although his electorate owned one of the richest oil projects, about 12,000 of the people in the remote parts had never seen a vehicle or civilisation.
Mr Lagea added that the physical presence of infrastructure and services in his electorate were the work of the churches.
He vowed that he would give 10% of his budget to develop the electorate to the churches.
