First VCT in Kimbe

PEOPLE in West New Britain who are worried about their HIV/AIDS status will now have access to free counselling testing.
This has been made possible with the opening of a Voluntary, Counselling and Testing (VCT) centre (VCT), the first in the province at Valoka sub-health centre in Kimbe.
The VCT was built inside a Catholic church ground with funding from AusAID, and includes counselling rooms, two bedrooms and a kitchen to cater for long distance travellers.
Already calls have been made to people at Valoka to use the facility to determine their HIV status so infected persons can plan their lives and be put on treatment.
The centre will remain open at night so that those who do not want to be seen during the day can go for testing.
