Higher recognition for PNG engineers

THE Institution of Engineers Papua New Guinea (IEPNG) is now trying to get local engineers to be recognised at the international level, IEPNG chief executive officer Benedict Mick said last Friday.
“We are working and communicating with international engineering institutions so that our engineers can be accredited by them. This is part of IEPNG’s efforts to enhance our engineers’ performances.
“Currently, they are performing professionally at the local level. But to be recognised at an international level will be a bonus to their credibility as engineers.”
Mr Mick said at the moment, engineers in PNG were not recognised at the international level.
“Also we are amending the Professional Engineers Registration Act to register all our engineers. This is also one way to improve our engineers’ performances,” he said.
Mr Mick made the statement during the opening of the institution’s renovated office building at Gordon in Port Moresby.
There are now 3,000 registered engineers in various fields with IEPNG.
