Unitech fee hike a burden for rural people

FROM my personal point of view, the increase of fees announced by Unitech Council is not good for Papua New Guinea in view of the following reasons:
1. Eighty-five percent of the population are rural subsistence farmers who cultivate their land for income. If the increase is imposed, then where will these poor people get the money to pay for their children’s school fees?
2. The Government has failed to maintain the entire road infrastructure in the country. The current state of the deteriorating road conditions nationwide would make it impossible for the 85% of rural subsistence farmers to bring their produce to the market and sell to meet such increase in fees;
3. The current proposed increase would make the rich become richer and the poor become poorer;
4. The income of most of the people in PNG is inconsistent for them to meet such an increase in the school fees while the prices of goods and services are increasing daily;
5. Why increase in the fees at time when there are huge amount of money in foreign reserves, when the economy and finance are in top shape as reported in the media?
6. Why is there another increase when the university increased the school fees by more than 45% just two years ago? What is the logic behind the increase?
I call on the government to intervene and meet the increase. Please, don’t deprive the poor 85% of the population in this country.
