THE Morobe Community Welfare and Justice (MCWJ) group has welcomed the
united stand taken by Morobe Governor Luther Wenge and Lae Open MP Bart
Philemon to address the Lae roads issue.
While commending the stand taken by the two leaders, MCWJ chairman Peter
Seske told The National it was good for both leaders to come together to
clear the image of Morobe and address issues affecting the people.
Apart from the Lae city road issue, Mr Seske said the monies promised by
the Morobe provincial government for community policing and MCWJ should
also be made available as crime was on the rise in the city.
“More Morobeans, Papua New Guineans and foreigners were being killed in
Lae and the recent killing was the late Mathew Sigurupoi.
“I urge Mr Wenge to deliver service and also control crime through these
two organisations,” Mr Seske said, adding that the call was further made
for the shocking loss of the young aspiring Finschhafen man, who was
shot dead last Monday by criminals.
He said late Sigurupoi was the owner of Clesus Night Club in Lae Toptown,
who was allegedly killed along the Boundary Road in the early hours of
Monday.
Mr Seske said they (MCWJ) demand support from the current MPs for Morobe
to push for funds for the group to extend its services to the community.
“MCWJ services will be free to all in the city settlements in addressing
general law and order for the good of all peace loving citizens in Lae
and Morobe.
“And we also want to see that the National Government reintroduce the
Vagrancy Act in Morobe and other centres because the social fabric was
deteriorating at an alarming rate in the society,” Mr Seske said.
He said the current Government should immediately release funds to safe
guard the people’s well being.
