Post PNG personalised stamps now sold in Lae

THE Lae community now has access to personalised stamps following the introduction of the unique service by Post PNG last week.
This follows the recent official launch of the new postal service in Port Moresby giving the postal service operator an edge in marketing and promotion options suited for different occasions.
Managing director Peter Maiden said: “It is an important day as the personalised stamp service is launched in Lae.”
He said to heads of business community present that Sir Bob Sinclair had been the company’s chairman before stepping down to contest the Morobe Regional seat in the recent elections.
“Thank you, Sir Bob, for helping and guiding Post PNG to a profitability stage,” Mr Maiden said.
Personalised stamps were first introduced in Australia but were used more as souvenir and gifts.
Kenei Gumaru, manager of the Philatelic Bureau, said the concept bridged the gap between public, users and stamp collectors and had added value to doing business as a contemporary and enjoyable form of communication.
A photograph, insignia or slogan is printed on the tab of the stamp.
It is sold as sheets with 20 stamps a sheet with orders available for both domestic and overseas destinations.
Standard domestic orders cost K17 for 20 stamps with a K5 processing fee for the first set.
The stamps are being produced using a special printer from Canada costing about K400,000.
